A JavaScript Data Transformation & Management Library

Posted · Category: Framework, GPL License, MIT License

Miso is an open source toolkit designed to expedite the creation of high-quality interactive storytelling and data visualisation content. The first release under the Miso Project is Miso Dataset, a JavaScript client-side data management and transformation library.

It makes managing client-side data easy by handling loading, parsing, sorting, querying & manipulating data from all sorts of sources. Unlike client-side frameworks that focus on entity modelling, Dataset is designed exclusively for working with matrices/tables of data. This allows a rich set of number crunching capabilities and helps optimise the handling of large numbers of rows.

A Lightweight Responsive Slideshow jQuery Plugin

Posted · Category: Gallery, MIT License

ResponsiveSlides.js is a tiny jQuery plugin that creates a responsive slideshow using images inside <ul>. It works with wide range of browsers including all IE versions from IE6 and up. It also adds css max-width support for IE6 and other browsers that don’t natively support it. Only dependency is jQuery (1.4 and up supported) and that all the images are same size.

Biggest difference to other responsive slideshow plugins is the file size (985 bytes minified and gzipped) + that this one doesn’t try to do everything. ResponsiveSlides.js has basically only two different modes: Either it just automatically fades the images, or operates as a responsive image container with pagination and/or navigation to fade between slides.

Define Your Custom Scroll Path with jQuery Scroll Path

Posted · Category: MIT License, Tools

jQuery Scroll Path is a plugin that lets you define your own custom scroll path. The plugin uses canvas flavored syntax for drawing paths, using the methods moveTo, lineTo and arc. To help with getting the path right, a canvas overlay with the path can be enabled when initating the plugin.

Scrolling can be done with the mousewheel, up/down arrow keys and spacebar. The spacebar scrolls faster than the arrow keys, and holding shift while pressing space will scroll backwards. A custom scrollbar is also included, which allows click and drag scrolling. The scrollbar is enabled by default.

jQuery Scroll Path also allows rotating the entire page, using CSS transforms. This can be done either along a path, or around the current position. In browsers without CSS transform support, all rotations are ignored, but paths are still followed. This means the plugin works with graceful degradation in all browsers.
